Mendlesham Community Land Trust
2025 Mendlesham Community Land Trust ( CLT) with the support of Mendlesham Parish Council, working with Community Action Suffolk (CAS) carried out a Housing Needs Survey (HNS) for the parish. We must thank everyone who helped with the delivery of the questionnaires and those of you who duly completed and returned the questionnaires.
714 questionnaires were hand delivered , with 225 surveys returned, a return rate of 32% . This is a good return rate as it is those either with the need or their relatives who will be more engaged to support the need for a HNS.

“The analysis showed a need for 7 homes for affordable/social rent (3x 1 bed, 2x 2 bed and 2x 3 bed.) It showed a need for 2 homes for affordable or discount purchase (1x 1 bed and 1x 2 bed.) There was also a need shown for 1x 2 bed open market home.
These numbers do not include any unidentified need from those who did not respond to the survey and those looking to move into Mendlesham who have not already been identified by close family currently living in Mendlesham or registered with Gateway to Home Choice.
The final number of properties will need to be agreed, together with the size, type & tenure of dwellings with the CLT, Local Authority, and appointed Registered Provider. The number and mix of properties will be subject to the constraints of any suitable site(s) together with evidence of people registering their interest”.
In summary, the need to provide a Parish project for community housing, specifically for Mendlesham Parish residents either those currently living in the parish or with a connection with the parish has been evidenced.
Whilst planning applications in the Parish will provide more community dwellings,
priority for these includes district needs in addition to any local Mendlesham Parish ones.
Next steps: Mendlesham Community Land Trust is now able to move forward with Land Owners and Housing Providers, with support from CAS, Mid Suffolk District Council and Mendlesham Parish Council, for a housing project specifically for the benefit of those with a strong connection to the Parish including retention of these dwellings in perpetuity for Mendlesham needs.
